Keto in a hotel room with no kitchen
With a mini-fridge, a microwave and one trip to a grocery store, a hotel room becomes a keto kitchen for the week. The breakfast buffet works too, once you know which trays to visit.
The game plan
- Check that the mini-fridge actually gets cold (40°F or below) before you stock it.
- Do one grocery run on day one: rotisserie chicken, bagged salad, deli meat, cheese, avocados, eggs if you have a microwave.
- At the breakfast buffet, build a plate of eggs, bacon or sausage, cheese and any vegetables.
- Keep one shelf-stable backup meal in your bag for late arrivals.
- Throw out leftovers that sat out more than 2 hours.
Go for
- Rotisserie chicken
Two or three meals with a bagged salad. - Bagged salad kits
Use your own dressing if the kit’s is sweet. - Deli meat and cheese roll-ups
No cooking needed. - Avocados
Halve, salt and eat with a spoon. - Canned tuna or salmon with mayonnaise
Lunch in a minute. - Microwave scrambled eggs
Whisk in a mug, cook in short bursts and stir until fully set. - Buffet eggs, bacon and sausage
The keto core of every hotel breakfast.
Pass on
- Buffet pastries, waffles and oatmeal
Flour, syrup and oats. - Fruit cups and juice
Berries are fine; melon and juice add up. - Room-service sandwiches
Ask for the burger without the bun instead.
What to say
“Could the omelet be made with just eggs, cheese and vegetables, no potatoes or toast?”
Pack this
- Single-serve nut butter or nuts
- Electrolyte packets
- A small knife-free cutting kit (plastic utensils, salt)
- Travel mug for microwave eggs

Quick answers
Can I cook eggs in a hotel microwave?
Yes. Whisk eggs in a microwave-safe mug, cook in 30-second bursts and stir between each until there is no runny egg left. Mugs get hot, so handle with care.
