A chaffle is a waffle made from cheese and egg. It crisps like a hash brown, holds together like bread and takes five minutes from bowl to plate. Make a batch and use them as sandwich bread all week.
Nutrition per serving (estimated)
Method
- Heat a mini waffle iron. Whisk the eggs, then stir in the cheddar, almond flour, baking powder, chives and seasoning.
- Spoon about a quarter of the batter into the iron and cook 3 to 4 minutes, until deeply golden and no longer steaming. Do not open early or the chaffle will tear.
- Repeat for four chaffles. Cool on a rack for a minute; they crisp as they cool. Serve with butter.
Chef’s notes
- Sprinkle a thin layer of cheese on the iron before the batter for an extra-crisp crust.
- Reheat in a toaster or air fryer, not the microwave.
Storage: Refrigerate 4 days or freeze with parchment between layers.
